Frequently asked questions

How does iCloud sync work?

TrailWeight stores your gear, pack lists, and weight history in your own private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. As long as your devices are signed into the same Apple ID with iCloud Drive enabled, your data syncs automatically across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. We never see or store your data on our own servers. If you're signed out of iCloud, the app still works fully and keeps everything on-device.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no TrailWeight account or login. The app uses your device and your iCloud only.

My gear isn't appearing on my other device.

Check that both devices are signed into the same Apple ID, that iCloud Drive is on (Settings → your name → iCloud), and that you have a network connection. CloudKit sync can take a moment to propagate — give it up to a minute and reopen the app.

How do I add gear quickly?

You can scan a product barcode or search a product name, and TrailWeight will look up details from the public Open Products Facts database to pre-fill the item. You can also type a description and let the app parse it into fields, or import a CSV/LighterPack list.

What does the Shakedown do?

The Shakedown reviews a pack list and highlights your heaviest items and the biggest opportunities to cut weight, so you can decide what to leave behind.

How is my privacy handled?

TrailWeight has no third-party analytics or tracking. Your data stays in your iCloud. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
